Leitmotifs in Possession

Morro

Morro has two different leitmotifs, both played on viola. The first is a legato phrase composed of three-fifths ending in a grace note. The second is slightly more accented, encompassing an altered six-note melody with heavy vibrato, which seems to somewhat represent more of his emotional side, although it isn’t very clear. These leitmotifs are played with different tones and accompaniments depending on the situation.

The Master of Water

A flowing, ten-note phrase on (Bawu) flute that embodies Nya’s role as the Master of Water. When she unlocks her True Potential in Curseworld Part 2, it is played on a brass ensemble, and during/after she (and Nyad) merge with the sea, it is played on duduk.

Airjitzu

Sensei Yang’s art of Airjitzu is represented by this eerie string melody. It is notably similar to the Ninjago Overture.

Ronin

A sneaky, plucked melody full of syncopation represents the merchant-theif Ronin.

Yang

A ghostlike string theme with a backing organ and percussion. While the leitmotif is primarily used to represent Yang, it has also been used for the Preeminent and her ghosts during the finale of Possession.
