Leitmotifs in Hands of Time

Time Twins

A staccato melody on autoharp, reminiscent of a ticking clock. It is used to represent the Time Twins, Krux and Acronix. There are two different motifs, although there isn’t any clear distinction with what they could individually represent.

Kai’s Search for His Parents

A quiet and mysterious alternating pattern of notes that symbolizes Kai’s quest to uncover more about his parents. Its final appearance is louder and more dramatic as Kai finally finds and confronts his father.

Family of Kai and Nya

A noble phrase played on brass and drums, sometimes just on flute, that represents Kai and Nya’s family as well as their history with being blacksmiths. It reappears in March of the Oni with Kai and Nya’s dynamic as well as Kai needing to reforge the golden weapons.

The Vermillion

A threatening series of notes signifying the Vermillion Warriors. The note pattern has similarities to the Great Devourer’s leitmotif, tying into the fact that the Vermillion are its offspring. Slurred, ascending or descending chromatic scales on strings sometimes appear, probably representing the snakes’ slithering and/or reforming.
